n France, too, railroad lines are being closed down and one or two stations remain. Lovingly and tastefully renovated, it stands here in Carlux, right next to the former railroad embankment, which is now a bicycle fast track between Sarlat and Cazoulès. It is a little over 23 km, some of which run along the river.
The station, spread over three levels, houses an unusual exhibition in which design and authenticity coexist. The Gare Robert Doisneau houses two exhibitions that are unique in France. There is the only permanent exhibition dedicated to Robert Doisneau.
On the first floor, we find photographs of Robert Doisneau's vacations in the Dordogne and the Lot from August 1939, the beginning of the Second World War. We discover well-known landscapes, family photos, and pictures of canoeing... Timeless photos of an (almost) unchanged Dordogne.
On the second floor, "Disks of Life" is a theme that Robert Doisneau often uses. There are photos of "characters" from the region. Especially those of Rougié Foie Gras.
And then there is also a laboratory here. With an interactive virtual animation, the old negative photography comes to life and you can recreate the old exposure and development technique, which is still used by a few enthusiasts today.
The Robert Doisneau station also temporarily exhibits the works of other artists throughout the year. An opportunity to discover more photo art.
In the station, the new tourist office of the Pays de Fénelon. You can find out about everything to see, activities and festivals in the region and in Périgord Noir in general.
A station with a tourist office must of course also have a souvenir store where many souvenirs of Robert Doisneau and the Dordogne-Périgord region can be purchased. And it is absolutely impossible to have a station without a "Café de la Gare". The Café Resto is open from April to November to welcome visitors to the exhibition, cyclists and passing motorists. like us ... like us ... Besides drinks, the café also offers homemade food with fresh local products.
