The boulevards and squares shaded by trees, lined with stately 17th and 18th century houses, accentuated by quiet gurgling fountains covered with moss, add to the flair of this city. Proud stone lions guard the largest street, the Mirabeau cours, where the fashion-conscious ladies and gentlemen from Aix pose on a polished background indulge in their exhibition skating or sip at their café.

Although Aix is a student stronghold, not only do you find the more expensive names and brands here, life seemed more expensive than in other Provençal places.
