Set in steep mountain slopes, about 5 km south of Berchtesgaden, is the emerald-green Lake Koenigssee, Germany's highest lake (603m), whose water is drinking water quality and reaches fjord-like depths. The bus service 841 goes to the lake about every hour.
You should escape the hustle and bustle of the tourist village of Schoenau, which is situated on the lake, and take a boat trip to St. Bartholomae, where the world-famous chapel with the onion domes stands on the west bank.
