The Castle of Milandes was the home of Josephine Baker and therefore known worldwide. It was the undisputed residence of the Caumont family until the French Revolution.
The castle was inhabited throughout the 16th century. However, the family's conversion to Protestantism destroyed the peaceful harmony at the "Sleeping Beauty Castle". The French Revolution changed everything once again: the splendour of the Caumonts faded and the château was abandoned. Sold in the 19th century without the new owners showing any real interest in the building. It was not maintained and was finally abandoned. Finally, Mrs. Baker brought the property back to life with her family...
